St. Petersburg is one of the few Russian cities that has managed to preserve its historical integrity. The wide avenues, squares and waterways of the “Northern Capital” form a unique mosaic of the urban environment that is interesting to explore. We will visit the Church of our Saviour on the Spilt Blood and Peter and Paul Fortress, see the iconic historical buildings of Nevsky Prospect and take in the best views of the city.
Hermitage is one of the most famous museums in Russia. We will explore the main State Rooms of the Winter Palace, see the Great Throne Room, where the most important receptions and official ceremonies took place, the Peacock clock with visually striking automation and, of course, the masterpieces of the museum's art collection. We will also enjoy the historical Hanging Garden, created at the behest of Catherine II, and Raphael's loggias, which take us straight to Italy.
On the second day we will explore Peterhof Park Ensemble which is considered one of the largest fountain parks in the world. Enjoy the beauty of the Royal Residence, its fountains and landscapes. Then, our journey will head to Pushkin, where Catherine Palace is located.
On the way, we will talk about the fate of the Russian empresses who lived here for a long time, about the unusual history of the stolen Amber Room and admire panoramic views of St. Petersburg. Upon arrival to Pushkin city (Tzar’s village) we will visit Catherine Palace, a great example of the luxurious baroque style. The gallery of gilded halls will lead you towards the Amber Room which was lately restored in all its splendour. You will learn why this palace was so beloved by Russian empresses, what happened to the collection of the royal family during WWII and enjoy a stroll in the picturesque Catherine garden.
After the tour we will return to your hotel in St. Petersburg.
Your guide will meet you at the hotel.
The order of the museum visits may change depending on the availability of entrance tickets, museums days-off, traffic situation in the city. Museums also reserve the right to shift an entrance time on a very short notice but you will still visit all the venues listed on the itinerary.
